The Overall Journey of the Much Loved Reality Show: Rising Star Season – 2
Rising star season 2 received much love and applaud this time for its talented singers and the new platform given to audience for live voting for their favorite contestants. The unique and amazing program format of rising star season 2 allowed the viewers and audience to vote for the contestants through the color’s channel mobile app. Taking in consideration, the first season of rising star, there was an age limit of 4-13 years, where in contestants above 13 years were not allowed to participate in the audition rounds. However, this time, the colors channel decided to make the applicable age limit as 4 years and above.
The popular reality TV show is based and formulated on the concept of an Israeli program that is also a singing competition HakoKhav Haba which means the next star in rising. Rising star season 2 was first premiered on 20th January 2018 and is the first ever Indian TV show which let the viewers to live vote for their favorite contestants with the help of mobile app – Voot. The show has 3 singing experts such as Shankar Mahadevan who is popular playback singer in the south & Bollywood as well as an astound music director. The other two are playback singer Monali Thakur and the very popular singer of Punjabi Music and actor Diljit Dosanjh. This time the earlier show’s host is replaced by Ravi Dubey, who proved his caliber as a nice host and choice for the same. The rising star season 2 had a huge list of participants willing to get selected in the auditions.
The first premiere of the show saw the audition of the contestants namely Rohanpreeet Singh who sang famous Bollywood song “Dil Diyan Gallan” and got 86% of total votes. The other contestants were Mamta Raut, Aman Biswal, Dipanjali Chatterjee, Sriprassanna Pendyalaya and the friendship band. The last audition round was telecasted and premiered on February 4 through which total of 31 contestants were selected for the next battle to win that was named as “Duels ki takkar”. The Duels ki Takkar rounds and episodes started from 10th of February and here in the selected contestants were required to beat their counterparts with a higher score in live voting. The contestants who qualified and won this duel ki takkars round were then selected for the battle of quarterfinals.
On February 24, the top 16 contestants of the rising star 2 made to compete with each other in the India’s favourite 16 + Duets challenge round. There were total of 8 teams who performed by singing in duets. The concept goes on like this- the first team was allowed to perform with the wall up and let the target percentage set for the next team in line. Now, the next teams performed with the wall down and an attempt to beat the target score of the previous team. The singing duo that scored the least in voting percentage was made to sit in a red sofa that was the unsafe zone for the contestants. As a conclusion, the team who scored the least amongst all the other teams was eliminated.
The episode no 14 which was telecasted on March 10 and had the theme of hero no 1 with the guest of the show being Govinda, the famous and talented Bollywood actor, had 12 top contestants. All the top 12 contestants were made to compete against each and the ones with a lower score in voting used to sit on the Red Sofa, which is the unsafe zone. At the end of the episode, the contestant with the least score got eliminated and in this episode it was Aman Biswal who got eliminated, he sang the song “Kisi Disco Mein Jaayen”.
The episode numbers 16 & 17 had a special theme dedicated for Guru Shishya Jodi and Bachpan ke Suhane Din. During the same episodes, there was also a twist. It was the wild card entry for the eliminated candidates. But, unfortunately here also, Aman Biswal could not make a re-entry, while Chetan Brijwasi and Raenit Singh won the wild card entry round by singing songs “baawre” and “Kurbaan Hua”. As the rounds and competition progressed amongst the contestants, the show hosted a grand finale to select the winner from the show, which was telecasted on 15 April 2018. The show had top 4 contestants by then as Vishnumaya Ramesh, Rohanpreet Singh, Zaid Ali and Hemant Brijwasi. In the first round, all 4 contestants competed, while, in the second round, only the top 3 contestants proceeded to the next challenge of face off round. Here in, Zaid Ali was eliminated and he sang the song “Jag Ghoomeya” from the movie “Sultan”.
In the final face off round of grand finale episode of the Rising star season 2, the three experts of the show had no voting power, and there was only a value of the votes that were accumulated from the live voting of the audience and the viewers. The Winner of the rising star season came out as Hemant Brijwasi by scoring the highest voting of 86% for singing the song “Alvida”. All in all, it would be no wrong to call the show as a cultural fiesta where every contestant was appreciated despite of their religion, age and cultural background. Contestant singers like Rohan Preet Singh took us back to the love and craze of Punjabi music & Sindhu Tai won everybody’s heart with her soulful singing, whereas Zaid Ali being too young was also a very talented singer. Also, not to forget the winner of this reality show Hemant Brijwasi who took us to the good, old & traditional and melodious singing of classic music!!
